Motion graphics for a seven-module trading course

01Background

The client

Taurex is a multi-asset broker offering access to over 1,500 instruments across forex, indices and shares, on MT4, MT5 and a proprietary platform. They are FCA-regulated and publish a standing risk warning: CFDs are complex instruments carrying a high risk of rapid loss through leverage.

Taurex Academy is their education arm. This project covered a seven-module course delivered through it.

02The problem

The brief

Taurex had already recorded the course — seven modules of raw video, each supplied with its script. What the footage did not have was any visual explanation. A presenter describing how a market behaves is not the same as a viewer understanding it, and trading concepts are close to impossible to follow from narration alone.

Our job was the visual layer: turning each explanation into motion graphics that carry the concept, across all seven modules, as a consistent system rather than seven separately-designed episodes.

Having the scripts alongside the footage is what made a system possible. Reading all seven before designing any of them meant we could see which concepts recurred and build reusable components for them, instead of inventing a new chart treatment every time one appeared.

04Production decisions

How we built it

We designed a system, not seven videos.

Across seven modules the same visual ideas repeat — price movement, timeframes, risk, position sizing, market sessions. We built a component set once: a chart language, a typographic hierarchy, a colour logic for up and down, a set of transitions. Each module assembles from that kit. The result is that a viewer who finishes module three can read module six without relearning the visual grammar, and Taurex can extend the course later without the new material looking foreign.

Sequencing to the script, not over it.

The motion had to arrive on the beat where the presenter introduces an idea and resolve before the next one starts. That is a timing job done against the actual audio rather than a design job done in isolation, and it is most of the work on educational content.

Build the concept up, don't reveal it finished.

A finished chart dropped on screen shows the answer. A chart that builds — axis, then price action, then the level being discussed, then the annotation — teaches the reasoning. Sequencing the reveal to match the explanation is the difference between decoration and instruction.

The category sets limits on the visual language.

Educational content for a regulated broker cannot look like promotional content. Charts that only travel upward, profit figures used as decoration, or a visual framing that turns an illustrative example into an implied outcome all push educational material toward something it is not allowed to be. We treated every visual as illustration of a concept rather than evidence of a result, which in practice meant giving downside the same visual weight as upside. This is a design constraint we work to on financial content generally. It is written here as our approach, not as a description of instructions from the client.

Long-form attention management.

Course modules are long, and attention decays. Motion is used to mark structure — section changes, new concepts, summary moments — so the viewer always knows where they are in the module.
